A little background on the three amigos. Before you read, please beware of spoiler-y goodness.

  Aoyagi Ritsuka;
Is the main protagonist of Loveless. Withdrawn and cynical, Ritsuka is haunted by the mysterious death of his brother, Seimi, two years earlier and his own apparent personality reversal. Once a happy, carefree child, Ritsuka is obsessed with picture taking, certain that when his personality changes back to what it was before, he won't remember who he is now, wanting a record of the time. While he is bound to Soubi both by Seimei's final instructions to his warcraft and as the other man's sacrifice, he seems to feel something deeper for the man, whether it's a nascent crush or a desire to be protected again. Determined to uncover the circumstances behind Seimi's death, Ritsuka finds himself pursued by the organization "Seven Moons" who want him for an as yet defined purpose. Ritsuka is also known by the codename, Loveless.

  Agatsuma Soubi;
Codenamed Beloved, Soubi is Ritsuka's warcraft. He initially approaches Ritsuka because he was ordered by Seimei to protect him as well as become his partner. As an undergraduate in University majoring in art, Soubi is seemingly Ritsuka's opposite, charming where Ritsuka bristles, outwardly kind and collected where Ritsuka is awkward and often harsh. These differences becomes more glaring when it becomes apparent that Soubi will do anything he's ordered to do, especially in conjunction with Seimei's last wishes, making it difficult to tell if he truly loves Ritsuka as he claims to or if he's merely playing a part dictated to him.

  Hawatari Yuiko;
Ritsuka's classmate and the closest thing he has to a best friend, Yuiko is a bouncy, bubbly ball of energy, well-meaning and a little ditzy who befriends Ritsuka when he transfers into her school. Yuiko is at first nonplussed by Ritsuka's attitude then determined to draw the boy out, developing something of a crush on him. She genuinely cares about him, taking great pains to make him happy and look after him, particularly concerned when strange people start showing up to challenge him. Yuiko also appear to like Soubi and though she understands there's some deeper connection between he and Ritsuka, she doesn't let it stop her from dragging the two of them around and mothering Ritsuka.
