Syaoran ♥'s Seishirou
(or why we love the other S/S)
One might almost say that Syaoran and Seishirou's first meeting was... hitsuzen.
Hitsuzen: 1. A naturally foreordained event. 2. A state in which all other outcomes are impossible. 3. A result which can only be obtained by a single causality and other causalities would necessarily create different results.
From the first, there seems to be an interesting mix of tension and attraction between these two, Syaoran repelled but drawn to Seishirou despite himself and Seishirou seemingly torn between playing with Syaoran and wishing him well on his own quest. Unlike Subaru Sumeragi in Tokyo Babylon, Syaoran doesn't seem to be hampered or crippled when his illusions about Seishirou are torn away. He shows a real reluctance to fight him though when push comes to shove, it's obvious he will do what he has to in order to get Sakura's memory back. But there's a sort of wistfulness that seems to accompany his memories of Seishirou from Clow and more than a little evidence of hero worship from young Syaoran directed at the man who saved him. Seishirou himself also seems highly interested in Syaoran, in his doings and how he's turning out, watching him with an almost proprietary interest and respect. Though he escapes with Sakura's feather, he makes it clear he's more than looking forward to meeting up with Syaoran again in the future--after he's grown stronger.
The similarities between the relationship Seishirou has here with Syaoran to the one he has in Tokyo Babylon with Subaru are eerie in some contexts. Seishirou meets Syaoran as a child and the pair immediately have something in common through the right eye they've both lost. The relationship they begin in Clow starts off as friendly and will later turn deadly as they end up on opposing sides. But the dynamic in this relationship is very different from the one that's played out in Tokyo Babylon. The chemistry between Seishirou and Syaoran is highly combustible, almost dangerous and Syaoran himself seems to know it's wrong for him to care for Seishirou, yet he can't divorce himself from their past.
Seishirou does tarry long enough while on his quest to find the vampire twins to not only save Syaoran but to teach him what he needs to fight and to survive, skills that will carry Syaoran far in years to come. Syaoran is of course a different type of character from Subaru and yet still he seems to find himself caught in the same web that trapped the Sumeragi. He is interested in Seishirou, it's made more than clear that he does care about his old mentor and some of that hero worship could easily translate into a sort of attraction especially given that Syaoran seems to believe his chances of ever being with Sakura are next to nil. Seishirou more than any other character we've encountered in T:RC so far gives Syaoran pause and in many ways, he seems to regard him with the same sort of longing and respect he bestows on Princess Sakura.
For his part, Seishirou seems to understand Syaoran, his weaknesses and his darkness better than any of his companions. He appears to genuinely like Syaoran (even if he has no qualms about killing him--this is still Seishirou, after all). Seishirou also seems interested in seeing how Syaoran will turn out, more than teasing and flirtatious in some of their encounters. He hints that he knows something more about Syaoran than even the boy himself knows which would beg the question of exactly what that knowledge would be and how it ties into the feather in his keeping. It will be intriguing to see how this plays out when Seishirou does reappear, given Syaoran's reluctance to harm him and Seishirou's own muddied intentions.
